Zelenko Freedom Foundation (ZFF) Co-Chair Ann Vandersteel discussed the victory of Harriet Hageman against incumbent Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney in the Republican primary for the November 2022 midterm elections.
During the Aug. 17 episode of her Brighteon.TV program “The Zelenko Report” featuring retired Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely, Vandersteel explained that Hageman supported Cheney during her 2016 congressional campaign. But in 2021, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney broke from the GOP to denounce former President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
This revealed the younger Cheney’s colors as a Republican in name only (RINO). According to the ZFF co-chair, Cheney’s loss in the primaries showed that a lot of people are tired of the propaganda liberals are trying to push. Now they are fighting back, with Hageman’s victory in the primaries serving as a small victory in a bigger war.
Hageman, who was handpicked by the former president, effectively egged out Cheney in what Trump described as a “very decisive win.”
The former president wrote on his social media platform TRUTH Social: “This is a wonderful result for America and a complete rebuke of the Unselect Committee of political hacks and thugs.”
Roughly 70 percent of Wyoming Republicans voted for Trump, so Cheney’s act of voting to impeach the former president for his handling of the January 6 riot became a red line for voters who backed her not too long ago.
The former president also had strong words for Wyoming’s RINO congresswoman.
“Liz Cheney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions toward others. Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where, I am sure, she will be much happier than she is right now.” (Related: Anti-Trump RINO Liz Cheney’s husband found to have financial ties to Communist Chinese Government.)
A short profile by NPR about the Republican nominee revealed that Hageman obtained both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wyoming. She began her career as a law clerk for the late federal appeals judge James Barrett, but then went on to practice privately in various firms in Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska.
Hageman’s specialty as an attorney was focused on natural resources and water litigation. She previously represented the federal government in many private property cases before eventually opening her own firm.
She first ran for public office in 2018 to follow the footsteps of her late father Jim Hageman, who served as Wyoming state representative for over 20 years. Although she lost her first attempt, Harriet decided to run a second time against Cheney.
“[Liz Cheney] betrayed Wyoming, betrayed the country and betrayed me,” said the younger Hageman.
But prior to the recent GOP primary in Wyoming, Hageman had been a “never Trumper” while serving as an adviser for Cheney. She condemned the 45th president as “racist and xenophobic” in 2016, and threw her support behind now-Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Hageman dubbed Trump as the “weakest candidate” that election.
The Republican nominee touched on her past opposition to Trump, saying that she “heard and believed the lies the Democrats and Liz Cheney’s friends in the media were telling at the time.” Hageman later realized her mistake upon discovering that the allegations against him were untrue.
“He was the greatest president of my lifetime, and I am proud to have been able to re-nominate him in 2020,” she said. “I’m proud to strongly support him today.”
This paid off for Hageman, who subsequently received the former president’s blessing. Trump is known for endorsing candidates formerly critical of him who subsequently become his defenders.
