President Joe Biden is now calling on Americans to reject the demographic “replacement theory” – even though he dubbed it as a “source of [the U.S.] strength” years prior.
Biden did the 180 while talking to reporters as he was preparing to leave for Buffalo, New York. The city made it to the news headlines after Payton Gendron, 18, committed a mass shooting on May 14 at the Tops Friendly Market there. Ten people died as a result of Gendron’s attack, and law enforcement subsequently took the perpetrator into custody.
In his manifesto made public before the mass shooting, Gendron cited the replacement theory as a motivation for his attack on the grocery. According to the replacement theory, Whites in Western countries are being demographically replaced by non-whites.
“I believe anybody who echoes replacement theory is to blame – not for this particular crime, but it’s for no purpose … except profit and/or political benefit,” Biden told reporters before leaving Washington, D.C., adding that “it’s wrong, it’s just simply wrong.”
The president reiterated his call for Americans “to reject the lie” of replacement theory upon arriving at the Empire State. “I condemn those who spread the lie for power, political gain and profit. We have now seen too many times the deadly and destructive violence this ideology unleashes,” he said.
Biden also took a jab at Fox News host Tucker Carlson: “I probably shouldn’t be saying this now, but I’m going to say it anyway. We have to not only talk about how we’re going to end the hate, but who’s responsible for generating it. You have folks on television stations talking about the replacement theory.”
According to the president, the rhetoric pushed by Carlson and other “folks on TV stations” has resulted in “angry, alienated, lost and isolated individuals [being] radicalized … into falsely believing that they will be ‘replaced.'” (Related: Democrats, Biden and left-wing media jumped all over the Buffalo shootings but ignored, downplayed Waukesha massacre over race.)
Biden’s statement was a stark contrast to his earlier promotion of replacement theory. Chris Menahan of Information Liberation pointed out two instances where the Democratic president pushed the idea that he now derides.
Back when he was vice president under the Obama administration, Biden remarked that America being “flooded [with an] unrelenting wave” of immigrants was a good thing to be “proud of.”
“It’s not going to stop, nor should we want it to stop. As a matter of fact, one of the things I think we can be most proud of [is] an unrelenting stream of immigration; nonstop, nonstop,” Biden said during a 2015 White House Summit.
“Folks like me who are Caucasian, of European descent – for the first time, we’ll be an absolute minority in the United States. Absolute minority. Fewer than 50 percent of the people in the U.S. from then on will be White European stock. That’s not a bad thing; that’s a source of our strength.”
Menahan also mentioned another instance of Biden endorsing the replacement theory sometime after he was fraudulently elected in the 2020 elections.
During a December 2020 virtual meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris and other Black civil rights leaders, Biden warned that Whites in the U.S. would be on track to become a minority.
“If we cannot make significant progress on racial equity, this country is doomed,” Biden said. “Not just because of African-Americans, but because by 2040 – this country is going to be minority White European. You hear me? Minority White European.”
Biden also encouraged Blacks and Hispanics to work together to make the goal of a White minority a reality. “You guys are going to have to start working more with Hispanics, who make up a larger portion of the population than [you all] do,” he told the civil rights leaders.
